The Serra do Rio do Rastro received on Sunday morning (6) athletes who participated in the sixth edition of the Cycling Challenge. The event brought together 1,500 athletes from 16 Brazilian states, including Roraima. The great champion was the gaucho, Everson Assis Camilo, from Novo Hamburgo (RS), from the category elite speed. Camilo climbed the 24.5km in 1h03min. “I am proud to participate in this great event, which praises cycling throughout our country. It was exciting to get the first place among so many level athletes, “said the athlete.
In the mountain bike category, the athlete, who lives in Braço do Norte, Luiz Fernando Martins, was beaten, with the time recorded in 1h13min. The lauromüllense, Fernando Luciano Vieira, of the category mountain bike, master A1, also rose to the podium after getting second place with the time recorded in 1h16min.
This is already considered the biggest sporting event held in Lauro Müller. The concentration of the athletes took over the main streets of the city, from where the first platoon left at 6:40. The arrival was in the viewpoint of the mountain range, in Bom Jardim da Serra.
On each pedaling, men, women, youngsters, amateurs and professionals, from all over the country, mingled for the same goal: to reach the top of the road chosen as the most spectacular in the thermos like a water bottle.
Mayor Fabrício Kusmin Alves, who signaled the departure of the athletes, celebrated the success of the event. “The participation of the Municipal Government in sporting events like this has been increasingly important. Our mission, as a public manager of a city with great potential as Lauro Müller, is to directly encourage these competitions, as they move the local economy and strengthen the tourism sector, “emphasized the mayor.
The city of Lauro Müller has been practically crowded all weekend. Hotels, inns, restaurants and shops have been busy for the past few days. The competition was promoted by the Cycling Federation of Santa Catarina (FCC). Military, Road Police and Fire Brigade also supported the competition. Strategic points were set up by the Municipal Government for the distribution of water and fruit to competitors.
The president of the federation, João Andrade, celebrated the success of the sixth challenge, this time with a record number of participants. “We have successfully completed the one that is already the biggest competition, in number of participants, organized by the Cycling Federation of Santa Catarina.
