The beach is a small community located on the coast of Paraty (RJ). It’s a beautiful place, with white sands, transparent sea and a waterside shaded by almond trees. There are no roads of access to the beach and that’s why she has been maintaining beautiful and preserved. The beach, as well as other beaches in the region, is part of Juatinga and State ecological reserve is waypoint for those who make the crossing of Juatinga.
Despite “progress” being bit by bit coming to the community, the beach is still a place for those looking to get away from this busy life we live in big cities. There still reigns the peace, tranquillity and security. Is a place to rest and enjoy the nature.
The sleep Beach has a very cool vibe and is frequented by various public, as families, couples, groups of friends, surfers, hippies, backpackers, but all have in common the search for peace and nature.
Today the beach already has electricity in the community, which ended up driving a little tourism and in addition to the campsites multiply, also increased the number of houses (simple) for rent and there are already up to an Inn, but keep it simple and rustic. The paths are made of sand and there is no luxury.
If you want to go to there below is a lot of information that we have prepared to facilitate your trip.
A bit of history
“There are 50 years 220 families lived in Praia do Sono, who lived from fishing and agriculture, a traditional caiçara. With the opening of the Rio-Santos road in the 70, a major land speculator bought and paid 213 families, getting only 17 of them fought for the possession of their lands. The surnames of these families are: Castro, Santos and Aguilar all descendants of Portuguese families who landed in the region. Some families grow cassava farm for production of flour into a single existing flour House which recalls the tradition of food culture. Currently [undated] live in 60 community families (286 people), mostly Evangelical. Most of them live in the seasonal tourism-summer and long holidays, and artisanal fisheries, to a lesser extent. ” (text taken from the Beach Guide website)
How to get there
There are basically three ways to get a hiking sleeping bag from homethodology.com:
1. Walk, trail, from the Village of Oratory (next to the condominium of orange trees). The trail starts beside the point end of the bus and there is a big sign indicating the entrance. The path is well marked and wide can’t lose. To the beach of sleep gives more or less 1:00. The first 15 minutes are up, by a sort of ladder made on Earth, then it is flat or down (at various times with “ladder”). The track is nice and easy, but pay attention to the ground because if is wet the floor, which is well visible, can be slippery in parts.
2. By boat from the pier of the condominium of orange trees. Just before the end point of the bus there is a stop (), near the entrance to the Condo Laranjeiras. If you arrive by bus ask the debt collector tell you when is the parade of the Condo (that’s where most people get off the bus). This is the stop that you should be waiting for the van that carries for free until the pier of the boats (which is inside of the condo). The van picks up the parade crosses all luxury condo and arrives at the pier. The only way to get to the pier is with this van, and she is passing all the time, back and forth, at most you should wait about 20 minutes. When we were there (in jan/2016) the value of the boat to reach the beach of sleep th e submit $30 per person and the path it takes from 5 to 10 minutes.
For those coming by bus: In Paraty bus station take bus 1040, which leads to the village of the oratory (and Orange condo) and take the boat get off at the stop of the entrance to the condo, if you’re going to make the track go down at the end point.
For those who drive: there is parking in the village of Oratorio, including some right near the start of the trail.
3. Alternative paths: you can also reach the beach of sleep per track, coming from the North/East from and landing of Cajaíba, Martins de Sá, Ponta Negra, etc, but there are longer trails to several days, depending on where you start. See more about this in the account of the crossing the Blog Pulse x Mamanguá Mountaineer.
What to do
This is the obvious thing to do in this and in any other beach. But I can’t help but quote! The waters are transparent and hot! A total delight.
For the crowd of surfing, you can take the Board by rolling several waves out there, especially in the Red corner of the beach (facing the sea). Apparently all the kids who live there surfing at the beginning or end of the day.
In the left corner of the beach (facing the sea) there is a small and beautiful river which flows into the sea. Sometimes he is too low, but other times the tide rises andit becomes a delicious location for a river bath. There are some deeper parts andother shallower. Is a good place to relax and enjoy some calmer waters. Good forkids too.
It’s a pretty easy trail, about 1.1 km has a sign indicating the beginning of her next to the Church. The trail goes through the “interior“ of the community by entering in the Woods behind the beach, sometimes passing near the River (Jamanta Stream). It ends in the alligator, a good place to take a shower.
The trail is easy and you can make slippers, however pay much attention to the ground, as this region has snakes and when we were coming back from the track, we find a black snake sunbathing beside the riozinho. She had more than 1 meter in length and we believe that was a snake (black and well just with the yellow face). It is safer to do this (and any other) tennis track.
Is the beach that is the “side“ of sleep, to get there just across the hill which lies to the left of the beach (facing the sea). The trail begins just after the River, there aresigns indicating the path, but you can’t go wrong, even at a distance, from the beach you can see the trail across the Hill. The trail is pretty simple: up, up, up and down, down, down and arrived at the beach! The climb is very steep and is well advised do tennis (especially if the floor is wet or even damp). Another tip is to make the ascent in the morning, before the 10:00 when the Sun is not yet punishing anyone who rises, because the climb is strong and without trees.
Old Beach is beautiful and without structure. It’s that wonderful great sea surrounded by hills and clear water. In the morning the almond trees and trees behind the rim make some great shadows to extend the cover. You can enjoy a lot of the seawith the waves (not strong, not too weak), but the trick is that in the left corner of the beach is formed like a natural pool, without waves, wonderful.
The beach is beautiful and you can spend an entire day there enjoying, but the alert that has nothing of infrastructure on the beach: zero, zero, zero construction baron wheels. So take all you need is food and water, what else you want. And bring it with you because there’s no dumpsters and garbage collection have not oblivious!
It is worth remembering that this beach is a preservation area and camping is not permitted in
Following, after Old Beach, at the end of the beach has a trilhazinha, super fast and easy which leads to the next beach, which is a beach beauty Antiguinhos similar but well little one. Depending on the time of year the beach can be isolated, just for you. For being less she is even more charmosinha. You can enjoy the site!
It is worth remembering that this beach is also a preservation area, without any structure e is allowed to camp in it.
Waterfall of Cruets
From Antiguinhos if you continue on the trail, after 1.3 km you will arrive at the waterfall of the Cruets, but we were enjoying the beaches and we ended up not having time to meet, so we have no pictures. But is #dica!
After Antiguinhos you can also get to Ponta Negra, one more beautiful beach withbasic structure and some campsites. This location is usually a stopover point for crossing the Pulse.
Read more about it on the Blog Expedition running around this track on the first day of Joatinga crossing.
Bravo Bag falls
From Ponta Negra it is possible to make a trail to a waterfall quite unusual that falls on a rock by the sea: is the Bag falls Bravo. How is farther, to get there is need to overnight in Ponta Negra. Read about it on account of the trip to the Waterfall of the Bravo Blog Brazil Trekking Bag and also in the Expedition Blog walking around who made the crossing was also Joatinga until the waterfall by Angry
About the campsites
A rush to go to the beach, no doubt‘s camping there. The beach has several campsites, believe that about 15 more or less. Most of them stay on the edge and you camp in front of the sea, but also has some more hidden, inside the community. Camping there is super nice, everything to do with the vibe of the place
All campsites are rustic and simple Beach most is only a small area, with one toiletavailable for campers. Some (few) has kitchen area available. The majority is with sand floors, but if you prefer to camp on the grass there are some that have a grassy area, especially those who are further away from the beach.
Among the various campsites we saw there, we highlight a few:
Camping of Izac: is where we stayed. It’s a super simple camping, basically is a sandy area with a toilet in the background. Are 3 toilets and 2 showers (one hot and one cold). Outside has a sink and a tank. He does not have full kitchen, but has a table with benches, that is free for personal use for eating or cooking, with their ownequipment. One of the perks of camping is that you camp in front of the sea and also the your Izac built a bamboo structure with a fixed canvas, which protect the tent on rainy days.
We found the atmosphere very nice and your super attentive and careful Hongbinis the place.
Next to the camping is a bar that sells acai berry, which is of the children of your Rose. The acai berry is wonderful, it’s worth a lot to prove. Definitely among the best açaís I ever ate in my life!
Camping the Claudinho: is next to the Camping of Izac (across the Acai) and also has sand floor and tarpaulins for tents. In addition to bathroom that camping had asmall kitchen. We consider this a good option.
Don’t: Possibly the camping with the best structure of the beach. Has bar, bathrooms and communal kitchen. The camping area is in front of the beach and has a part with grass (rare!). See more about the Camping Don’t.
Camping at home: it is the last beach camping is for those who want to camp withhis face to the sea. Floor of sand only. There’s no structure with fixed canvas, but you can arm your canvas about the tent. When we were there I think it was the camping fuller, had several tents. The bathroom and the entire space seemed really nice.
Also has Camping Saint George, Ismene, Erciyes, Jorge, Wattle, Caiçara among many others, all with simple structure and the like.
When we were camped there, in the Camping of Izac pay R $20 per day, per person.
But consider that prices can range from $15 to $30 depending on the time of yearand the structure of the camping.
Camping on the sand always has its drawbacks, so stay tuned to the site which is put the tent.
In the sand usually has many anthills, usually of little ants that don’t bother until you put the tent on top of the entrance to the nest.
Another bug which is present in the sand are wasps that don’t like to be bothered. If possible avoid placing the tent about the play of them, or even very close to theentrance so they don’t feel threatened. The sting of a WaSP can be very painful and you certainly won’t want to try in this camp.
Here PRESERVATION is the watchword.
The beach of sleep is inserted in an ecological reserve and in recent years have come through a progress that is questionable. For this keep it up paradise, an environment of peace, beauty, harmony and safety must all take care of the site, so:
Respect the animals: crabs, wasps, shrimps, ants, snakes, all birds, etc. Before us, the beach is their environment!
Zero waste: leave nothing but your footprints … If you are doing any trail bring your garbage back. This is not a city, there’s dirt to clean your garbage men. It is outrageous to see bottles or any kind of packing on the trails.
Camp in Campsites: because it is an area of protection, is not allowed to camp outside the campgrounds. Not on the beach, or on the nearby beaches. If you feel that the campsites are expensive, it’s time to rethink their concepts. In this community, that receives and welcomes everyone with care, many people rely on this daily value of campsites to survive. Pay this small sum is a way to collaborate with the local community. If you are looking for a place to camp, find a place that allows this.
In good … For the beach, or you go there with a sustainable thought, to enjoy the beauty of the place, without causing any harm, or you better not go!
