Meaning of Waterfall in English

The concept of waterfall comes from the Latin word cataracta (in turn derived from the Greek kataktēs). We can determine that this Greek word is the result of the sum of two clearly differentiated parts: “cata”, which can be translated as “downwards”, and “arassein”, which is synonymous with “hitting”.

Waterfall refers to a jump of water: A vertical drop of water due to a steep slope of the bed or couch.

In general, the idea of a waterfall refers to a jump that is important due to the height of the unevenness and the flow of water. Otherwise the notion of waterfall is often used. It can be said, therefore, that a waterfall is a very large waterfall.

The characteristics of the falls change according to the time of year. There are dry seasons where the flow of the river is reduced and, therefore, the falls have less water. On the other hand, in the rainiest season, the flow increases both in the river and in the waterfall.

The Niagara Falls are among the best known waterfalls. They are formed by the Niagara River, on the border between Canada and the United States. Its fall is around 64 meters high.

The Iguazú Falls, considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World according to an international vote, are located on the border between Brazil and Argentina. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in South America.

In addition to those already mentioned, there are other really important waterfalls such as the Victoria Falls, which are located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. They are about 108 meters high and 1.7 kilometers wide. Likewise, it should be noted that the famous Victoria Falls bridge is located on them, which is made of steel and dates from 1905.

It should be noted that cataract is also the name given to a vision disorder caused by the opacity, either total or partial, of the lens (a structure of the eye). As the lens becomes opaque, the passage of light is difficult, causing the person to have problems seeing normally.

Specifically, it is determined that there are three types of cataracts:
-Nuclear cataract, which is mainly the result of aging and affects the nucleus of the lens.
-Subcapsular cataract, which damages what is the rear part of the lens. People who are most at risk for this type of cataract are those who take steroid drugs and those with diabetes.
-Cortical cataract, which occurs in the cortex of the lens.

Being old is one of the causes that can lead to this vision problem. However, there are other situations that can also generate the same. We are referring to obesity, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, high myopia or family history, among others.

The symptoms that indicate that a person suffers from cataracts are blurred vision, the colors are perceived less bright, you can have what is known as secondary vision…
