Urumqi (Ürümqi) belongs to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and is its administrative center. From the ancient Mongolian language “Urumchi” means “beautiful pasture”. And it’s true: the city center is located on the territory of an oasis, on the one hand, sandwiched between the snow-covered peak of Bogdo (Eastern Tien Shan), and on the other – a large salt lake.
Urumqi is a popular excursion destination known since the times of the Silk Road. Here is the Daban area, where the famous Erdaoqiao market, the beautiful Nanshan Alpine meadows of Juhuatai and the picturesque White Poplar Gorge are located.

Entertainment and attractions in Urumqi
The landscape area “Mountain Screen” is located 80 km south of Urumqi, in the mountain valley of Krauchen. At the entrance to the valley rises a stone rock resembling a screen, which gave the name to this place. Lush pasture meadows and dense groves are spread here, a river flows. The area is accessible at any time of the day. There is a regular bus from Urumqi to Banfangou township center.
“Heavenly Lake” (Tianchi) is located in the Tien Shan mountains, in the Bogdo Peak area, in the Bogdo-Ola mountain system, 110 km from Urumqi. The lake has the shape of a crescent, its length is 3400 m, the maximum depth is 105 m. Surrounded by green mountains, this lake looks very picturesque, the water in it is clean and transparent, it is not without reason that the name “Tienshan Pearl” has become stronger behind it.
